Hoi Polloi’s Movement Workshop
Article Date - 3rd September 2007
Author - Marco Calleja, Sharon Spiteri

The first Hoi Polloi workshop was held at the end of August and was led by actor Ben Darmanin who recently graduated in Musical Theatre from the Royal Academy of Music.

Ben, who is based in London, was in Malta for his summer holidays and was happy to take the workshop, being always keen to encourage young performers. And on Friday 24 August, eight of them got a taste of a gruelling professional workshop. After a short warm-up involving a number of movement exercises, a lot of stretching, sit-ups, push-ups and kicks, the company prepared a short routine from The Jersey Boys. Although the workshop was intense, Ben’s charisma, passion and energy inspired the participants to work as hard as they could and the results were exceptional. The class wound down with some more stretching and ended with a question and answer session on tuition abroad, auditions and much more.

This first workshop was such a success that Hoi Polloi are now considering holding more in the future. Fans are urged to visit the Hoi Polloi website to learn of future events. Finally Hoi Polloi wishes to thank Ben for making the workshop possible and wishes him all the best, now and always.
