Marco Calleja
MARCO has been involved in the performing arts since the
tender age of six. During his primary and secondary school
years he was involved in a number of small plays which
continued to develop his passion for theatre.
In 2001 he produced and directed his first summer
production for the kids and young adults in his hometown Zabbar,
‘Oliver: the Musical’, followed by the
pantomime Pinocchio (2002) and The Sound of
Music (2003). He
then started voice training with Mezzo
Soprano Beatrice Brockdorff and has sat for exams
with ABRSM in both music theory and singing. He was
involved in the St. Aloysius College Sixth Form
Soirees and Musico-Literary Evenings.
In 2004 Marco founded Hoi Polloi
Theatre Productions and wrote and directed ‘Sindi
Rella – the panto’ and then wrote and directed
‘Tarzan & Gejni’ in 2005. Marco also took part
in Voices Xtraordinaire (2004)
and Masquerade’s 1565: The Musical (February
2005). He was a student at Masquerade Theatre Arts
School in 2005 and was one of the 15 finalists in the
T.V. program Hotspot. For Hoi Polloi, he
also directed 'This Thing Called Love - a night with
Cole Porter' in 2006. In July 2006 Marco
attended the Musical Theatre Summer School at the
Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London while in
October 2006, he was one of the semi-finalists in the
programme 'L-iSfida'. To date Marco has recorded two
duets with Daniela Brockdorff.
Marco was also part of the crew of the
popular T.V. drama series ‘Santa Monika’ and was co-presenter of the prime time
programme ‘Klinika’ with popular actress and presenter Marica Mizzi. Apart of his involvement in drama and
television Marco is a full time student and is currently
studying for a B.Sc degree in Biology and Chemistry at
the University of Malta. |
